Auburn Gresham's 79th Street Renaissance Festival - Saturday, September 12, 2009

Auburn-Gresham's Annual 79th Street Renaissance Festival is set for Saturday, September 12th, 2009. Expectations are high for the all-day event considering the great success of the previous three festivals.

Last September 2008 an estimated 7,000 people made their way to the rejuvenated 79th Street corridor to browse vendor displays, enjoy live entertainment, and sample food from local restaurants. It was a beautiful sun-kissed day in the heart of the Auburn-Gresham community, and with over 100 organizations represented at the festival, there was something for everyone.

Face painted youth rode ponies, bounced in inflatable moonwalks, and participated in fast-paced drills ran by In the Paint Basketball Clinic. Seniors socialized as they were served a free lunch at Saint Sabina’s Elders Village. Many more attendees browsed the retail stands, and collected information from health organizations, service agencies, and government departments.

Last year’s long list of entertainers included the Jesse White Tumblers, the South Shore Drill Team, and Johnny Drummer and the Starlighters. The day was a celebration of the community, full of smiles and laughter.

Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GADC) staffers have already spent months planning for this summer’s 79th Street Renaissance Festival. You can count on another phenomenal event, with some new improvements to further enhance the experience. You will not want to miss it!
